Electric Circuit Kit

Build your own circuit and discover how electricity moves.

EGP 329

What you will learn

  • A circuit must be a complete, closed path for electricity to flow.
  • An open switch breaks the path; a closed switch completes it.
  • An LED only lights when it is connected the right way round, positive to positive.
  • The order of the parts in a circuit can change, and it still works as long as the path is complete.
  • Reversing the motor's connections reverses the direction the fan spins.

In this box you will build a real electric circuit with your own hands, then use it to light coloured LEDs and spin a small fan driven by a motor.

Twelve experiments take you step by step: light each LED, swap the order of the parts, start the motor, then reverse it. Every result is something you see for yourself, not something you just read about.

The battery supplies energy. A closed switch completes the circuit, allowing an LED to light or a motor to turn.Science concept illustration

The science inside

One complete path. A visible result.

The battery supplies energy. A closed switch completes the circuit, allowing an LED to light or a motor to turn.

  1. 1Supply energy
  2. 2Close the switch
  3. 3See light or movement

What's in the box

  • Wooden panels
  • Battery holder
  • Motor
  • Plastic fan blade
  • Switch
  • Wires
  • Crocodile clips
  • Screws
  • Double-sided tape
  • Four coloured LEDs — yellow, green, red and white
  • Assembly and experiments manual

You will also need

  • Two AA batteries
  • A small screwdriver

The journey of the energy

Energy never disappears — it changes from one form into another.

Try it yourself

  1. Light each LED

Wire the battery, an LED and the switch into a loop. Open and close the switch, then repeat with yellow, green, red and white.

  2. Swap the order

Put the switch before the LED instead of after it. Does anything change?

  3. Start the motor

Build a loop of battery, switch and motor, and use the switch to start and stop the fan.

  4. Reverse the fan

Swap the two wires on the motor. Which way does the fan spin now?

  5. Flip the LED

Connect an LED backwards, positive to negative. Does it light? Why do you think so?

  6. Design your own circuit

Draw a circuit that runs an LED and the motor together from one battery and one switch.

Safety rules

  • Ask an adult for help when using the screwdriver and screws.
  • Never connect the two ends of the battery directly with a wire — it makes the battery hot.
  • Keep fingers and hair away from the fan while it is spinning.
  • Take the batteries out of the holder when you have finished.
  • The kit contains small parts, so keep it away from young children.
