Air Conditioner Kit
Build your own air conditioner and discover how electricity becomes a breeze.
EGP 289
What you will learn
- A circuit must be complete for current to flow.
- The battery is the energy source, and the switch opens and closes the circuit.
- A motor converts electrical energy into rotational movement.
- Reversing the current reverses the direction the motor turns.
- Moving air feels cool because it carries heat away from the body.

In this box you will build a small air conditioner that pushes air with a fan driven by an electric motor, then discover the science that makes it work: the circuit, the motor and moving air.
Press the button and feel the breeze on your hand. Then find out a surprise: a thermometer in front of it barely changes, yet you still feel cooler. The manual explains why.
The science inside
Feel what moving air can do.
An electric motor pushes air through the vents. Moving air helps your body lose heat; this model does not refrigerate the room.
- 1Motor spins
- 2Air flows through vents
- 3Feel the breeze

Try it yourself
Air direction
Swap the two wires on the motor. What happens to the direction of the air?
Paper race
Put small scraps of paper in front of the air conditioner. How far do they fly?
Wind ribbon
Tape a thin paper strip in front of the vents and watch how it moves.
Design new vents
Draw a new shape for the front vents. Would it change the airflow?
Safety rules
- Never touch the fan while it is spinning, and keep fingers and hair away from it.
- Put the batteries in the right way round, + and −.
- Switch it off after use, and take the batteries out if it will not be used for a while.
- The kit contains small parts, so keep it away from young children.
